James Rippingale - Concerto Performances
...a performance full of grace and poise - Mike Wheeler Derby Evening Telegraph, review of DCO performance 2010.
James Rippingale has a range of Concertos available by Giulianni, Vivaldi and Rodrigo and likes to specialise in Rodrigo's Concerto de Aranjuez. His last performance of this Spanish masterpiece was on the 16th October 2010 with Derby Concert Orchestra under conductor Jonathan Trout in Littleover, Derbyshire.
Conductor Peter Stark said of James' 2009 Rodrigo Concerto performance with the DYO:
James Rippingale's performance of Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto was both accomplished and musically assured; it was a pleasure to work with a soloist so sensitive. - Peter Stark Conductor
The Buxton Festival Review stated:
The guitar cadenza was both awesome and flawless - what a feast. The gentle Allegro ended this wonderful concerto - the final movement having a complex, but delicate rhythm throughout in keeping with Rodrigo's suggestion that the concerto "should only be as strong as a butterfly....
a suggestion of times past." Lovely.
